Any appliance which uses a fuel that produces visible smoke must not be used in a smokeless zone unless the fuel being used is certified as smokeless. Appliances burning fuels that produce a visible smoke are liable to enforced control should they be used in a smokeless zone.

The Clean Air Act of 1993 prohibits the emission of smoke in smoke control areas, to ensure conformance with this make sure ovens are installed in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, using flue systems manufactured and installed to BS/EN standards and Building Regulations and Specifications. When purchasing a wood or gas fired oven you must make sure that it has all the correct certification for use, anywhere in Europe an oven should be CE certified.

What does CE Certified mean?

A CE approved oven means that the oven and gas burners used have been independantly tested and are accredited with a CE approval number and certificate assuring their quality and standard of manufacture, along with proven fitness for purpose and use according to the Euro Norm Standards applicable to the type of oven by an independent testing house.
